Every business owner is aware that if you want your business to grow one of the first areas you should focus on is marketing. So what are some of the techniques that we use to continue building our business community.

After all, it takes most customers seeing your product 7-9 times before they are curious about your company and another 7-9 times of positive feedback before they are interested in buying themselves.  While giving that type of information to inspiring and current entrepreneurs is the entire purpose of Businessempiremag.com we are not exempt from that statement.

We’ve been working on building our diverse community for more than 8 months now. The thing about marketing that most don’t understand is that it requires a lot of patience and repetition.

“Coke”.  Just from typing that word one of the first things that probably came to your mind was the soft drink.  Yet, even with a product that virtually sells itself Coca-Cola still spends millions every year on advertisements. I can’t think of one successful company that never has to market itself.

People often ask, “How did two young entrepreneurs manage to get so many people to want their membership?”

First, age can only limit you as much as you will let it. It is ok to be confident in what you are doing as long as you are still willing to learn.   We have been very pro-active in our marketing efforts. This means that instead of just saying I think college students, inventors and investors will find our site useful and hoping they hear about us some way, we actually go out and sell the benefits to them. Then we said we are so confident that you’ll find value in our services that we’ll give them to you for free and whatever you tell us will help you improve your chances of being successful, we’ll find a way to implement it into the site. It has taken 4 months already but those that have followed our progress actually contacted me to tell me that we changed the sites look and yesterday. I responded by saying, “ We had to as we simplified the features that we already had so that others could easily recognize their value and how they could benefit from them.”

So my best piece of advice for you when it comes to building a community is to take your time and build strong relationships first. You may know who you want to be involved but actively pursue them, ask for feedback, and actually use the information they give you. It won’t be easy and it will take a lot of time but in the long run you will be adding more value to your company. Also make sure that both sides are receiving mutual benefit. A large part of my day is spent doing this by talking to people in person, on the phone or through email about how their company is doing, not mine unless they ask.

Businessempiremag.com is still facing the same dilemma’s that you would expect any start-up to encounter, the only difference is that Matt and I have experience on building companies. Businessempiremag.com isn’t even a year old so we are still trying to establish our brand identity and show both the academic and entrepreneurial community that we have real value. I expect mistakes to be made. Consider that good things take time as you continue to grow your company.
