Like many other 12 year olds Brianna Corrine dreams big but she is not waiting for anything to be given to her. With her bold and confident personality Brianna has started Adorable Access, a company that produces handcrafted products.
We hold a Q & A session with the ambitious, young entrepreneur to find out what goes into growing Adorable Access.
Other than running your own business, what else do you like to do for fun? I usually just hang out with my friends. I have a lot of fun with them! Tell me about your business? I handcraft most of the items. Some are designed by me and other artists from around the world submit work that they want us to sponsor. These are on pins, buttons and such which will be published to adorableaccess.com soon. For the most part my friends help me think of new ideas. Sometimes they show me how to make things that I can make myself to sell. Adorable Access mostly sells handcrafted jewelry, but I am working on getting more handbags since I only have one available right now. I also want to make different types of pins, t-shirts and such! What made you want to start your own business? I always wanted to feel independent and special. I saw ShanaLogic.com, and the owner (Shana Victor,) was obviously having fun with it. I have been in love with art for so long, so I wanted a way to get the word out about my art and passion! How do you manage going to school and having a business? I usually work on adorable access on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and part of my Saturdays and Sundays. I usually think of different designs nearly every day. I doodle in my Adorable Access notebook during passing period. What makes you feel inspired or creative? I get bored very easily so I tend to daydream. I think of ideas to make adorable access 110% better than it is now. Then I just have to test out my thoughts and designs, so I get out the clay, or paper, or whatever art supply I need and get busy. How long does it usually take you to complete a project? For some projects, like the earrings, almost 20 seconds really, it is just beading actually. For clay projects like the doughnut, usually around 4 to 5 minutes. I try to make them look the best I can.
How do you go about marketing your company? I have Adorable Access branded on an online program called Kaboodle, which helped a lot with business. I also get permission to hang up flyers on mailboxes and such around the neighborhood and at my parents job. Do your parents help you out a lot? They help with driving me to the post office when I get sales. They also help with keeping the domain name when I am low on cash. They rock! What do you consider when buying supplies? When buying supplies I usually think about how much I really need. I also consider how much I would like to sell the product for. I don't want to spend $20 on supplies for a $10 product. Do your friends help out? My friends really only help with thinking of ideas, and showing me how to make some future Adorable Access stuff! They wanted to be mentioned on Adorable Access, so I mentioned them. What type of designs do you like to do most? I love making the funky type of stuff the most! I love making food on necklaces, jewelry and such. What products do you offer? Adorable Access offers jewelry (necklaces, earrings, and bracelets), totes/bags, pins/buttons, and future products still being processed such as t-shirts. How did you determine how much to charge? People always tell me to double the cost of how much I spent on making the product, but I don't really like that rule. Instead, I put myself in the place of the buyer. I think, “How much would I really spend for this?” I also ask these questions to my friends.
Who manages your website? Me, myself, and I! Who thought of the name for your business? My friends and I had a vote. The choices were really weird, like The Funk, and sugar plumpkin. How do you go about meeting new people? I advertise on Kaboodle and other online directories. I also hand out flyers in places I can get permission to. Who do you sell your products to? Sometimes my friends and family buy something that I created, but mostly to people around the US between the ages of 8 to 16.
Are there any other businesses that you are interested in starting? Yes, but one day I would like to change the brand name Adorable Access, to something that stands out better. How long have you had your own business? I’ve been running Adorable Access since December 5th, 2008. What made you start making hand crafts? My aunt Bonnie, she introduced me to polymer clay. Is there any other form of art that you like? I like digital/computerized designs for bags and such, but right now it is a little too high tech for me. What is your favorite school subject? Probably social studies. I may not be good at it, but I love it! My teacher in that subject is really cool. I also like knowing that our world had so much stuff happen to it! So many religions, beliefs, traditions, and all that stuff! How many employees/helpers do you have? A lot! They just help with ideas and such for the most part, but I have about 16 “helpers”. What do plan to do in the future for Adorable Access? I want to bring more color, a shopping cart and more professional look to the website. I would also like to have a whole new clothing line! |
